Dietrich Bonhoeffer stands like no other for faith, civil courage and taking responsibility. His His faith, his civil courage and his resistance against the Nazi regime continues to inspire people around the world to this day.
In his parents’ house in Marienburger Allee in Berlin-Charlottenburg, wher he lived and worked, we are not only preserving the memory of this extraordinary theologian and his family, but also connecting to the present day as al place of encounter. The Bonhoeffer House is visited by guests from Germany, Europe and all over the world.
Bonhoeffer’s voice remains relevant today. However, we are also experiencing that his name are increasingly being appropriated for political purposes – partly by right-wing extremist and nationalist forces from Christian circles. We are countering this development with historical education and space and opportuities for a real encounter that recall Bonhoeffer’s faith, thinking and acceptance of responsibility and translate them into our time. A responsibility that he took for others, for the weak, for the persecuted. With exhibitions, educational programs, discussion formats and other events, we work at the interface between the church, civil society and politics.
Recently, we have professionalized our work and created new structures in order to carry on Bonhoeffer’s legacy in a contemporary way as an non-profit association. This development strengthens the impact of the house, but also brings with it new challenges: the permanent financing of personnel and structural costs cannot be taken for granted in times of scarce church funding and without structural support. We need help so that the Bonhoeffer House can continue to be a place of encounter, education and inspiration.
You can now support us easily, securely and free of charge via https://www.betterplace.org/en/projects/163982.

Every contribution helps to keep Bonhoeffer’s legacy alive in its historical place – as a testimony of faith, an encouragement to think and a call to responsibility today.
