mission statement
Self-conception (vision)
The Bonhoeffer House–Memorial and Place of Encounter is the central historical location for the life and work of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his family.
As an association committed to civil society with Christian roots, we work at the interface between church, society and politics.
As a place of remembrance and memorial site, the communication of new scientific findings is just as important to us as an open discussion about faith, responsibility and social action today.
As a place of encounter, we promote the study of Bonhoeffer’s history and his relevance for the questions of our present day nd we facilitate exchange between people from all over the world.
Activities and offers (mission)
Welcome to this place of dialog, education, remembrance and inspiration! Our work is brought to life by a range of activities:
- guided tours of the house, the exhibition and Bonhoeffer’s study room
- educational programs for school classes, community and study groups
- event formats such as lectures, readings, matinees, seminars, memorial days
- cooperation with schools, church institutions and actors in historical and political education
- project work and international networking
Attitude (values)
As part of our regional church, we are committed to a Protestant understanding of education. Our work is based on Christian values, an open dialog with the world and an attitude of confidence. We stand for empathy, understanding, justice and peace.
We want to inspire, invite, strengthen and open up–in the spirit of Bonhoeffer, who wrote:
I believe that God can and will bring good out of evil, even out of the greatest evil. For that purpose he needs men who make the best use of everything. […] A faith such as this should allay all our fears for the future.
